    "Fandom Guessing Game" meme
((I ran across an interesting meme recently. Give it a shot and challenge your friends to see how well they know their fandoms--and your preferences.

    1. Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/etc. that you've had an obsessive fannish love of some time in your life are a fan of (OPTION: Favorite male AND female character for some of these)
    2. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each item.
    3. Post in your own journal.

    So here's my list:
    1. Legend of Zelda games (Both sexes.)
    2. Mario games (Both sexes.)
    3. DC on TV (Both sexes, hero and villain, four in this one.)
    4. Final Fantasy 6 (Both sexes.)
    5. The works of Miyazaki (Both sexes.)
    6. Marvel's merry mutants (Both sexes, hero and villain.)
    7. Valdemar books (Both sexes.)
    8. Anita Blake books (Just one, and it's a guy.)
    9. Disney's Gargoyles (Both sexes.)
    10. Harry Potter books/movies (Both sexes.)
    11. Transformers: Beast Wars (Both sexes--don't look at me like that, they have sexes... sort of.)
    12. Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman" (Both sexes.)
    13. Star Wars--all movies, games, books, etc. are fair game. (Both sexes.)
    14. Neon Genesis Evangelion (Both sexes.)
    15. Trigun (Both sexes.)
    16. Escaflowne (Both sexes.)
    17. Ruroni Kenshin (Both sexes.)
    18. Lord of the Rings trilogy (Just males since, sadly, only three women even get worthwhile mention.)
    I think that's enough, don't you?

Here's the kicker. I'm trying to get my writing mojo going again, so when all the characters are guessed (or I'm just tired of waiting), I'll post an entry crediting the winners and explaining why those characters hold a special place for me. It's not necessarily part of the meme, but I'm game if you are.))

    Let the lessons begin!
*Finding a hill somewhere quiet, Skan flopped down in a mossy, shady spot, and looked his new student over.*

So, make yourself comfortable and we'll get started.

    Hmm...
I wonder if there's something to this... Zhaneel will be furious if I go losing a limb.

    I should like...
I should like very much to speak with my friend, Totenkoph. Not long ago, I learned that he had destroyed a city full of people in order to strike at an evil nestled in its heart.

Ah, you recoil. I don't have that luxury. We have some things in common, things I should like to discuss with him.

Then again, I am told he has since managed to somehow un-destroy the city and everyone in it, except for that great evil. Perhaps we don't have that in common, but I would still like to talk to him.

There are certain things a gryphon can't help thinking about, sitting here atop the cliff, watching the sun set, with a bottle of good wine.

So many guests, so little time.
Well, I've been meeting the most interesting people in that nexus-thing lately, and made a few invitations. John seems to be taking a little longer than expected, but that's fine. The next mage-storm should pass through before he gets here, in any case.

A man by the name of Ray may be visiting at some point. An interesting fellow, he seems enthusiastically curious about everything, and a veteran of the sort of craziness one sees in a war between Adepts. Hopefully sometime he will drop by, and we can send Zhaneel scurrying for the shelter of her friends as we regale one another with old war stories. Hm, she knows what I'm plotting, and is glaring at me now. Yes, dear?

Ahem, anyway, at some point Nadezhda might drop by, though I am by no means certain of that. She seems a little distant lately, though it could just be that she is busy.

Before any of them go visiting me, though, I have promised to drop by Yvaine's country, Faerie. Or Stormhold. It's one of those. In any event, I shall be testing her for mage-gift, and teaching her if she has any, which I am quite looking forward to. Wish her luck!

    Preparations, preparations...
So much to do, and so little time!

This nexus place I've reached has been a wonderful place to meet people, and I've been learning some interesting things during my forays there. I have also, in the course of making friends, invited some among those to be our guests here in White Gryphon for a while. While John has been able to give me some idea of what to expect and warn people about, there are still plenty of preparations to be made, and Gesten is grousing because we don't know exactly when they're coming--he assumes everything has to be ready now, so it will be ready when they arrive.

Beyond the preparations for John and Aeryn to visit, I seem to have made an offer to deliver a lecture to a batch of recalcitrant students at some school of magery on behalf of another friend of mine. Her students aren't listening, her superiors won't let her give them a proper scare, but I am under no such constraints and am looking forward to the fun this promises to be. I have a few ideas, already, but it means I will have to absent myself from some of the preparations. Ah, well, I'm sure 'Drake can run things without me.

    Lapse of Meme-ry

    ...damn Kaled'a'in proverbs...
So, and so. We've only just gotten this council thing off the ground, and the dyheli are already raising a fuss. There are hundreds of construction projects even when magic isn't working properly, and more when it is, but they're insisting that we cover the lands they're grazing on right now with fences? And why, you ask, have they got this silly notion firmly lodged in their otherwise sensible heads?

Because some damnfool Kaled'a'in happened to bandy about one of their thousand-and-ten proverbs in dyheli earshot: "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." If I find out who it was said that bit of nonsense out loud, I swear they'll be putting up all the fences the dyheli could want, by themselves.
